Description & Responsibilities of Position:

Under the supervision of the Team Lead, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the development and productization of the project’s infrastructure systems. This position entails hands-on IT assignments requiring technical expertise, and strong engineering skills necessary to effectively define and implement systems administration strategies. The desire to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment is necessary for success.

  • Responsible for the design and productization of the project’s infrastructure systems.
  • Responsible for documentation of automation methods, interconnection diagrams, and expected system performance specifications when appropriate.
  • Responsible for design and documentation of disaster recovery plans and procedures.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior personnel.
  • Be a proactive member of team looking for improvements in technologies and efficiencies.
  • Assume other duties/projects as they arise and be responsive to the needs of the project.

REQUIRED Experience:

  • 8+ years Linux / UNIX systems administration experience, or a completed BA/BS degree and 4 years Linux / UNIX systems administration experience.
  • 5+ years working in a large scale enterprise environment, responsible for maintaining mission critical servers / services.
  • 2+ years enterprise project experience, responsible for bringing a project from inception to completion.
  • 4+ years experience working with RedHat Enterprise Linux installation and configuration, RHEL 3 / 4 / 5.
  • 4+ years working with VMWare ESX 3.5+.
  • 5+ years experience configuring/maintaining: Kickstart, SSH, DHCP, Bind, Apache, Syslog.
  • 4+ years scripting experience (shell, Perl, Ruby, Python).
  • 1+ years experience using CM tools such as Subversion and Clearcase.
  • 1+ years experience configuring Cisco IOS (switching experience configuring VLANS, DMZ, NAT, access lists, multicast).

DESIRED Experience / Education:

  • BS degree or certification in a related product
  • RHCT or RHCE (preferred)
  • Cisco certification
  • Experience configuring LDAP on a UNIX / Linux platform
  • Experience building RedHat RPMs
  • 2+ years experience configuring / troubleshooting RedHat kickstart
  • Experience configuring Zenoss or other SNMP monitoring software, and SYSLOG-NG
  • Experience working with NetApp appliances, and storage area networks (SAN)
